Outreach

Outreach is at the heart of living out our faith.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to share His love not only in words, but also through acts of service and compassion.

Outreach matters because it meets real needs — whether that's hunger, loneliness, or spiritual searching — while pointing people to the hope we have in Christ.

At St. John's Lutheran Church, outreach is about building bridges between our congregation and the wider community. Through programs that provide meals, food assistance, and support for children and families, we seek to care for our neighbors in both body and spirit. Every effort, big or small, is an opportunity to show God’s grace in action and to remind people that they are seen, valued, and loved.

Hospital & Shut-In Visits

Whether you are an inpatient or an outpatient at the hospital, your pastor and elders are happy to encourage you with God's word. If possible, please let the hospital know you are a member of our church when you arrive. Sometimes they contact us. Otherwise, please have a family member let us know in an emergency where you are. If you are homebound and cannot come to God's house, we are more than happy to come visit you and bring you the Lord's Supper.

Backpack Buddies

Fridays during the school year

Backpack Buddies is a vital outreach program designed to support children in our community who may face food insecurity at home. Each week, supplemental food is packed into discreet bags and delivered to elementary, junior high, and high school students in need. These bags provide kid-friendly, nutritious items that help bridge the gap over weekends and school breaks when regular school meal programs are not available. By ensuring students have consistent access to food, Backpack Buddies not only meets physical needs but also helps children focus better in school, feel cared for, and know that their community is behind them.

Come Now and Eat

4th Wednesday of the Month
4:30 - 6:00 PM

Come Now and Eat is a monthly meal in the fellowship hall that brings our community together. On the 4th Wednesday of every month, we provide a hot, homemade meal available for anyone who would like to join — whether you choose to dine in and enjoy fellowship or take a carryout meal home. This ministry is about more than food; it’s about sharing God’s love through hospitality, friendship, and care for one another. Everyone is welcome, no questions asked — because no one should have to face hunger or loneliness alone.

Pop-Up Pantry

1st & 3rd Tuesday of the Month
1:00 - 2:00 PM

Our Pop-Up Pantry in partnership with Feed My People Food Bank provides food and support to individuals and families in our community. This drive-through pantry makes it easy and accessible to receive groceries without leaving the cars. More than just a food distribution, the Pop-Up Pantry is an expression of Christ's love in action — meeting practical needs while offering encouragement and care. By helping to ease the burden of food insecurity, we hope to bring comfort, dignity, and hope to every household we serve.
